Moving image 2011
Group 6 – Billy Wilder and Oscar de la Renta.
Reflective statement.
Through out the last time we have spent time in our groups constructing ideas and working on our Moving image brief.
We had the director Billy Wilder and designer Oscar de la Renta to work from.
We have had a variety of Final cut pro workshops and lectures on on film, lighting, etc with general tutorials.
Through out this brief, I worked with the sound and editing part of the brief, but also gave opinions on styling, location, filming, camera, lighting and story boarding. As well as the majority of our Blog.
We all worked together to get the filming done in the V&A, some people putting more effort in than others.
I enjoyed this project but would of liked to have had some more time on editing and post production.
Having a part time job, working 4 days a week as well as this project has been hard to balance, but when I have not been there, others have put in the work, visa versa. I have put a lot of time onto the blog and initial ideas of the story boarding, as well as background research and final cut pro workshops.
I think our film, captures the lighting and mood of a Wilder film, with strong aspects of Oscar de la Renta’s clothing and costume through out. The story could have been worked on a little bit more, and experimented with different lactations as well as the one we used.
Loosing our Female model with 6 days to go, only pushed us harder and very grateful for the male model Sam stepping in as our actor.
I think it gave the short film a little bit more humor, like the Wilder films (Some like it hot being my favorite). Some like it hot is where I first for the idea of using a tango scene in our fashion film, which then got me thinking of the links we could use.
The tango scene in that film, along with the Spanish background of Renta, gave me the initial idea of linking the two. Which is why we have our male model doing a small dance scene down the stairs of the V&A.
This experience will help me in the future, to experiment a lot more with using film in my projects. I found the background research helped me progress and become confident with the final story and outcome of our fashion film.
