Kamel Beklami : DOVER STREET MARKET

Who/whom do you personally believe to be a satorial inspiration?
Rei Kawakubo, Azzedine Alaia, elegant women from any decades and actresses( with a weakness for the traditional ones), writers, anyone who brings something, you don t have to be in a spotlight, the real style is quiet... so is elegance

Who would you say is the most exciting/innovative designer in the fashion industry at present?
Rei Kawakubo, Rick Owens, and i guess that new designer, the one everyone will talk about next season that i don t even know the name yet

Which figures within the fashion industry do you respect most prodominantly?
First Isabella Blow, she is still an inspiration then Kawakubo, Alaia, Coddington, Grant, Formichetti>> for their humility and hard work and respect of people for ones respect of fashion in a good way for the other ones, and those who works in the dark

If you were to personally wear only one designer brand which would it be?
as a man kawakubo, Lang and Sanders (when they were designing) that makes one outfit right ;-), as a woman, Alaia

What would be you're personal idea of a fashionable/chic woman? Simplicity, "le mieux est l ennemi du bien", the best is the enemy of the good, make it simple, elegance is in the head, not through the clothes really, your brain is The couture, then everything goes naturally, from the manners to the talk, the look, etc but if i have to have a fashion view, it would be a woman who stands straight with an amazing walk, then the dress or whatever just follow the mood.

Dover Street Market

What was you're position at dover street market? sales - buyer

How would you describe the aesthetic/concept behind DSM in trying to portray to its customers?
according to Rei Kawakubo with her own words "I want to create a kind of market where various creators from various fields gather together and encounter each other in an ongoing atmosphere of beautiful chaos: the mixing up and coming together of different kindred souls who all share a strong personal vision."

Which Designer/Brand do you personally believe portrays the typical shopper at dover street market?
all of them, eveyone is been meticulously chosen to according Rei again "We hope to make DSM more and more interesting. I enjoy seeing all the customers coming to DSM dressed in their strong, good looking and individual way. I would like for DSM to be the place where fashion becomes fascinating." Rei KAWAKUBO

Who is the most commercially sucessfull/popular designer at DSM?
all of them really. Alia sells particularly well.

Piccadilly :
Do you have an opinion on british street style in
comparison to french/american?
english dare more, they fully live their sense of fashion with less boundaries i guess.

Which area of london do you particularlly like to shop/people watch in? bond street for the architecture/history, like to walk on st james street, soho.

If you were to shop in any establishment in the piccadilly/dover street area where would that be? (including bars, resraunts, hotels ect)
fortnum and mason( beautiful "old school way of shopping"), dover street market, mount street maybe.

Could you describe british interpretations of fashion in three words?
Swinging, individual, effortless.
